Coolant should be changed regularly to prevent corrosion that eats holes in cooling system components. This corrosion may result in an overheated engine that may be damaged beyond repair. Gear oil lubricated differentials are found in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive SUVs, as well as in rear wheel drive passenger cars and vans.
